Indians aren't cool. We shouldn't even aim to be
A ton of contrast based on my trip to SF.
Yes, Indians aren’t cool in the way that American culture demands.
We shouldn’t even try to be.
We aren’t Elon Musk kind of cool.
We’re Naval and Balaji kind of cool. We’re calm, deep thinkers, hard workers, and grounded people who do not value material progress as much as intellectual and spiritual progress. And we excel at whatever we do.
I remember a dialogue from the Bollywood movie Guru: “Golf khelna nahi aata. Ghodon ki race nahi khelta mein. Par apne dhande ka mazboot khiladi hoon. Kapda banana jaanta hoon. Polyestor. Ek number quality sabse saste daamo par.”
[I don’t know how to play Golf. I don’t bet on horse racing. But I am a strong player of in my industry. I know how to make cloth. Polyester. Best quality at the cheapest cost.]
It is time for a change.
Don't think different. Think authentic.
Don’t try to be cool. Be you.
